The village of Koutouloufari is situated
above Hersonissos port and is build near the foot of the
Charakas Mountain.
It was named after a priest called Koutifari, who befriended the
villagers, when they moved their village, which was under threat
from pirates, from the coastal area up into the mountains, he
gave them land around his church for them to build a new
village, the village prospered and is known for its olive oil,
wine and almonds.
The village is a very traditional village, the shapes of the
buildings and the works of art reflect this, and so does the
attitude of the inhabitants. |

There is a beautiful church, dedicated
to Agios Vassilios which is built on the remains of an older
church.
There are many opportunities to take pictures
throughout the village of traditional houses, picturesque alleys
and breathtaking views of the endless blue sea. |

In parallel to the romantic presence of the
picturesque features and the landscape there are many hotel
clusters and apartments and great number of restaurants where
you can enjoy traditional Cretan delicacies, with an amazing view
of the port.
It is certainly worth taking a tour around
the village, stopping and relaxing in one of the colourful cafes
to enjoy a cup of coffee or an ice cream, you can also buy
traditional products and souvenirs at the local shops which are
spread out within the narrow alleys of the village.
As for the entertainment, numerous places
will satisfy you music taste.
